Why It Matters

Food Security & Nutrition

New Yorkers experience food insecurity, including approximately one in four children. 53% of adults in NYC households below 200% of the federal poverty level experienced low or very low food security, representing approximately 992,000 adults.

Clothing & Essential Needs

51% of NYC adults lived in families experiencing at least one form of material hardship, including difficulties meeting food, housing, financial, medical, or utility needs.

Healthcare Access & Medical Outreach

Access to healthcare remains out of reach for many New Yorkers. Lack of insurance, financial limitations, and other barriers cause residents to go without necessary medical care, while those living in poverty face a disproportionate burden of serious health limitations.

Harm Reduction & Overdose Prevention

One overdose death occurs approximately every four hours in NYC. Despite significant improvements in 2024, Black and Latino New Yorkers continued to experience overdose death rates approximately twice those of white New Yorkers.
